Welcome to the Richard Gill School Blog for the month of September. It's been a busy time at our school lately! From welcoming global peace runners to a magical school sleepover, our students have been engaging in a variety of wonderful activities.
A Global Message of Peace
We were grateful to receive a visit from the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run, a global torch relay that carries a message of peace and unity across the world. Our students were thrilled to join the runners in singing peace songs and to learn more about their mission to foster a sense of harmony and peace around the world. It was an inspiring moment, that reminded us of the power of community and a shared longing for a better world.
A Night of Fun and Friendship
Our senior students had an unforgettable time at the first ever RGS school sleepover! Stage 2 and 3 students got a special peek into what school is like after hours, and they made the most of it. They participated in fun team-building activities, showcased their creativity in a lively talent show and woke up to a delicious breakfast of bacon and eggs. While everyone was certainly ready for a rest the next day, the smiles on their faces showed just how much they enjoyed this unique opportunity to build stronger friendships.
A Celebration of Reading and Adventure
The school was buzzing with excitement for Book Week, with this year's theme of "Book an Adventure." Our students dove into a world of imagination during library time, celebrated their favourite characters in the annual book parade and picked out new reads at our book fair. A huge thank you to all our families who made the day so special by helping students with their wonderful costumes. It was a true celebration of the joy of reading!
Each year, our school purchases books to donate to Early Childhood Learning centres in our community. This year, we have donated books to Little Kindy Muswellbrook and St Nicholas Early Education Centre Muswellbrook. Our students are always eager to share their love of reading with other children.
This year, our school also participated in the MS Readathon and raised over $500 to support families living with Multiple Sclerosis. The MS Readathon is a nationwide fundraiser that encourages kids to read for a cause. It's a wonderful way to promote a love of books while also teaching students the importance of giving back to the community.
Music in the Air
Our K-2 and 3-5 choirs have been hard at work, rehearsing with Mrs Vaughan from the Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music. The beautiful sounds of their practice sessions have been a joy to listen to from my office right next door, and I've been so impressed by their progress. Our young singers are excited to share their new songs with families later in the year, so stay tuned!
Welcoming Our Newest Students
We are preparing for our final Kindy for a Day session this Friday, September 5th. It's always a pleasure to see the excitement on the faces of our new kindergarten students as they get a taste of school life. Mrs. Smika has planned a day full of fun and engaging activities, and we can't wait to welcome them into the RGS family.
Enrolments for 2026
Enrolments for K-6 in 2026 are open now! We have had some keen interest in our 2026 Kindergarten class so if you would like to learn a little more about our school or to organise a school tour, feel free to reach out to our friendly staff by phone, email or EOI below.
As always, I am very proud of our staff and students at RGS and look forward to finishing off Term 3 with our Creative Arts Showcase in Week 9 and Parent Assembly/Athletics Carnival Award Ceremony in Week 10.
Thank you for your support,
Tara Stanford
