Our Curriculum: The Musical Quartet in Action

At Richard Gill School, we deliver the full NSW NESA curriculum through a specialised lens. We meet all Australian Curriculum requirements by harmonising four distinct pillars of learning:

Singing

Every school day begins with the heartbeat of our community: Whole School Singing. This communal practice builds empathy and collective focus before students step into the classroom. This is supplemented by rigorous classroom music lessons where students master the foundations of theory and performance.

Thinking

We provide a strong foundation in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, The Arts and Mathematics) by applying the logic and discipline of music to problem-solving and innovation. By encouraging higher-order, critical thinking, we ready our students for diverse pathways in secondary school and beyond.

Playing

Movement is central to the Richard Gill philosophy. Through Physical Activity and technical musical mastery, we develop the "whole child." In collaboration with the Hunter Regional Conservatorium, our students receive vocal lessons each week, alongside individual and ensemble instrument opportunities guided by expert tutors. Instruments included for 2026 are Piano, Violin, Cello, Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet and Trombone.

Developing

In an increasingly connected world, we grow students who are more than just readers and writers; they are capable communicators. By emphasising multi-literacies, we ensure our students have the perspectives and digital tools to navigate 21st-century demands with confidence and sophistication.
